It is strongly recommended you use your Ultrasound 2 - 3 times each day, each treatment lasting 15 minutes in length. Because the typical course of treatment through a equine therapist clinic is usually only 2 or 3 times per week people often question this frequency of treatment. The reality is that when your horse goes elsewhere for ultrasound, you are being limited by the cost and convenience of going for treatments. Your horse will actually benefit significantly from much more frequent treatments (documented). Use it frequently when treating the injury, and you can then taper off to occassional use once the injury is healed and use it as a preventative against re-injury.

Operation is simple. Plug the device, apply the specially formulated Ultrasound Ultrasound Gel, press the button and that's it. The device will automatically shut off after about 10 minutes, so restart it and apply for another five minutes - a total treatment time of 15 minutes. Now the ultrasound effect is optimal if the hair is removed from the treatment area, but hair removal is not necessary. If you want to treat the area without the hair removed, just use more gel to ensure good contact between the ultrasound head (transducer) and the treatment area.

For best results you should work on small areas, say 2 - 3 inches across. Keep the head moving slowly in small circles over the area. Also make sure you use enough gel so that the area is not dry or tacky. Without the gel, the ultrasound waves won't penetrate the skin and the pain relieving ingredient (infused in the gel) won't get to the affected area. If there are very large or multiple areas that need to be treated, work on one area for the prescribed time and then do another. Don't try to do it all at once for twice as long, this won't be nearly as effective.
