Guidelines and Safety

Step-by-step guide to using thermotex equine appliances.

The therapeutic effects of infrared heat to the various anatomical areas of the horse are the same as mentioned throughout this text they are:

  • Vasodilatation and increased blood flow throughtout all of the tissues
  • Analgesia
  • Increased extensibility within the ligaments and tendons
  • Decrease in joint stiffness
  • The psychological effect on the horse by allowing relaxation and a relief from stress

The following general step-by-step guidelines should be considered when applying this unique modality to any area of the hourse.


The horse should have its head tied up or be placed in a set of cross-ties. In some cases a mussle will be need to utilized. This ensures safety from the electrical requirement of the appliances.

How to Order Ultrasound
All dirt, poultice, liniments or any topically applied substances should be removed from the limbs or any other anatomical area either be brushing or with a hose and water.

Pre-warm the appliance before placing it on the animal.

Turn the switch to the low setting initially until the animal becomes acquainted with the therapy. After a few minutes, set the switch on high for at least 10-15 minutes.

Continue the therapy at the low setting for the duration of the treatment.

When the treatment is concluded, the inside of the appliance should be wiped down with a mild disinfectant, dried and stored in a clean place.
