TMJ Hood

As an aid to the treatment of the temporomandibuler joint dysfunction, the TMJ Hood is extremely effective. This 4 element application of deep heat infrared therapy is intended to provide aid in the relief of stress, relaxation, softening of the muscles and increasing blood flow in connective tissue pain in and around the joint.

ITS Hood

About 82% of all horses suffer from sinus problems. The Hood helps your horse get a breath out of life. The Hood helps treat blisters, sinus, flapper, star-angular glands, pharyingitis, and helps your horse breath better. The Hood has 2 elements with one located on the front sinus and the other on the throat.

Guidelines for Using the Thermotex™ Infrared Therapy System Hood Appliances

The two hood appliances each allow for the topical application of infrared heat therapy. There are two models of hoods to choose from. The Therapeutic hood has a 3in wide by 8in long pad that fits directly over the frontal sinuses of the head and the same size pad that fits directly upon the ventral portion of the throat. The TMJ hood is designed with two heat elements that re directly over the TM joint of the horse and has two elements over the muscles of the upper part of the neck.

The following general guidelines will allow maximum use of these devices:

• Secure the patient's head by tying it up or placing the animal in cross-ties.
• Brush any dirt from the head and loosen the halter one or two notches.
• Pre-warm the appliance by plugging it in and placing it on the high setting for a few minutes.
• Fasten the hood comfortably on the patient using the Velcro straps.
• Turn the switch to the high setting for the initial then minutes of therapy.
• Watch the animal closely for any signs of fear or discomfort from the hood being too snug.
• After the initial 10 minutes, turn the heat to the low setting and maintain this setting until the therapy session is completed.
• Disinfect the inside of the hood after use and allow to dry before storage.
• If necessary, sponge off the animal's head after treatment.

Each animal is unique and requires its own tailored therapy program. Common sense, horsemanship and cleanliness are the basic foundation in the myriad of uses these products are capable of performing.
