The leggings are an absolute must for quick treatment of soreness of bows, splints, osolets, buck shins, anklets, ring bone and tendons. There are four elements in each leg unit and the leggings come in pairs. Leggings fit both front and back legs equally well.

Thermotex™ Equine Therapy Systems are proven in reducing lactic acid build-up, helping a non-sweater sweat, and increasing kidney function. They also help bring out the natural oil of the skin, making hair glisten. Using Thermotex™ Equine Therapy Systems makes colic a thing of the past provided that early treatment has been performed.

General Use of the Hock and Legging Therapy Appliances

Anatomically, the areas of the knee and hock and distally down the limb are composed of tendons and ligaments with very little muscle tissue. Infrared heat therapy to these areas will allow more tendon and ligament flexibility as well as benefit all of the joints in this area. These joints will be relieved of stiffness and have a greater range of motion after treatment.

If a clinical problem exists, an accurate diagnosis should be attained before the initiation of treatment. An acute swollen flexor tendon is an example of a case that requires immediate diagnosis. If the injury is only a few hours old, infrared heat therapy would most likely be the wrong approach to take.

The following general step-by-step guidelines should be followed when using these therapy appliances:

  • Plug in the Thermotex Infrared Therapy System legging appliance to pre-warm for a few minutes.
  • Restrain the animal so neither its mouth or feet will come in contact with any of the electric cords. Cross-ties work well.
  • Make sure the leg is completely free of liniments, sweats, poultice or dirt and debris.
  • Properly place the legging appliance on the leg and secure with Velcro straps making sure the heating pads run parallel to the tendons.
  • Plug in the legging appliance again and leave on the low setting until the patient becomes acquainted with the therapy.
  • After a few minutes turn the setting to high.
  • After approximately 10-15 minutes, turn the setting on low for the duration of the treatment.
  • When the treatment is concluded, the inside of the leggings should be wiped down with a mild disinfectant, dried and stored in a clean place.
  • A rigorous massage to the tendons and ligaments after therapy is ideal.
  • Due to the unique technology employed with the Thermotex Infrared Therapy System leggings, overheating of the tissues will not occur. When warming the legs before an event, a short duration of treatment is indicated but when therapy is initiated as a treatment for a clinical condition, long treatment times are very beneficial.

Each animal is unique and requires its own tailored therapy program. Common sense, horsemanship and cleanliness are the basic foundation in the myriad of uses these products are capable of performing.
